Gear Review: Garmin eTrex 20

The Garmin eTrex is a portable GPS that fits in the palm of your hand. Not only is it small in size, the Garmin eTrex is also lightweight, works effectively and good value for money.

On top of that, it’s rugged and waterproof body means you don’t have to worry if you accidentally dropped it or use it in the rain.

Having used the Garmin eTrex 20 for 4 trips so far, let me share my experience with you.

When I travel, I rely on public transport and my pair of legs a lot, mainly because I don’t own a driving licence and I don’t intend to get one.

For buses and taxis, the Garmin eTrex is very useful because firstly, I want to be sure that I am heading in the right direction and secondly, I want to know if the taxi driver is not ripping me off by going in circles before bringing me to my destination.

I also like to wander around and get lost in the city. The Garmin eTrex helps me locate where I am on the map and provide directions to my next destination.

I even brought it on a cycling trip once in Canada, cycling on the road along the Niagera Falls, visiting the various vineyards in the area and the Garmin eTrex provided excellent turn-by-turn directions.

Personally, I like the Garmin eTrex a lot and would list it as one of the must-have gear for all backpackers.
