Market Brunch at Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort

For many, Brunch is the only reason to wake up earlier on a lazy Sunday. I love sleeping in on Sundays, waking up just before noon for Brunch. This weekend, I had a short getaway in Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort and am quite excited about the newly launched Market Brunch offered by the resort every Sunday.

The first thing I noticed about the Market Brunch, is how child-friendly it is. Most restaurants say that they are child-friendly and what they do is just offer elevated seats for kids to sit comfortably at the table. At the Market Brunch, Sheraton had custom made dining tables and chairs specially for kids so that they can dine with other kids and have fun while parents get to mingle with one another. There are also playmats and dedicated restaurant staff with an assortment of toys and coloring materials to keep the kids entertained.

Now let’s talk about the food. Once I was seated, a waiter approached me offering me some of the tapas he had on his tray. Looking around, I saw a few other waiters walking around the restaurant offering other guests different tapas dishes. I found out from the waiter that these tapas were prepared separately and not available on the buffet table. So I tried some of the tapas which were delicious by the way, before setting out to check out the buffet table.

Apart from the usual brunch fare like eggs made-to-order and pastries, Market Brunch offers around 20 live stations and buffets from fresh-made sushi, artisanal cheese and sliced meats, seafood barbeque, Chinese Dim Sum, Japanese Teppanyaki, Middle Eastern treats and delicacies, along with traditional Indonesian cuisine.

Among the endless array of cuisines on the buffet table, I particularly love the roasted pork, oxtail soup and Japanese sashimi.

Outside the restaurant is the live station where you can choose the seafood you want and the chef will barbeque them on the spot. How’s that for freshness?

Once you are done with your meal, multiple plates of desserts await you at the dessert table.

The biggest difference that Market Brunch offers is the collaboration with local businesses to feature retail stalls. One of the featured business is Pod Chocolate, a sustainable chocolate maker creating world class chocolate in the heart of Bali. After tasting the different flavors of chocolates, I like the Sea Salt Caramel the most, followed by Dark Ganache and Bali Coffee. I also bought a couple of chocolate bars back for my friends in Singapore.

Pod Chocolate also demonstrated how chocolate is tempered to make smooth and shiny chocolates.

Market Brunch also brought in local cheese, meat and vegetable retailers that offer food that you can add to your plate for brunch. They also sell their produce as well so you can consider buying a few food items and bring them out to the beach with a few bottles of beer or wine for a simple picnic.

Having tried the Market Brunch, I’m intrigued by the child-friendliness of the restaurant. If you are bringing the entire family to Market Brunch, your kids will be well taken care of while the adults enjoy the delicious food.
